Each shell in the collection you behold has come from a distant place.
Having lived many lives, it has grown very wise before arriving under your gaze.
A sculpture of day dreams and longings, a safe-haven for a delicate guest, it was built by the grace of nature, by the whims of the master architect.
The seasons turn, the shelter serves its purpose and is left undisturbed for a million years. Oblivious to its own beauty, as dead as it is alive, it echoes the memories of what was once inside.
Until, one fateful day it was spotted by an observer’s eye while resting in its vast terrain. He was swept under the spell of the enchanting shell, and was compelled to adopt it and give it a name. Obsessively he studied the curves and spirals in wonder of its perfect anatomy, its curious textures, sublime patterns and the ancient mysteries of its geometry.
To satisfy his profound fascination he spent his life foraging for more, building a collection with love and care, he leaves behind an empire of tiny homes.
As you dive inside each seashell, into its endless stairwell, deep as you hope your soul would be, honour the magic of a loyal refuge. Seek the spirits that dwell in its cracks, and resurrect them in your regard.
***This series of photographs is dedicated to Said Abdul Rahman Dajani, who spent 40 years of his life amassing an extensive collection of seashells from around the world.
